Ayurveda
Ayurveda has been on my radar for many years, my love of food, yoga and general well-being has led me back to Ayurveda time and time again, a trip to India and the most wonderful teachings from an Ayurvedic doctor in the cooking and nutrition side left me wanting to learn as much as possible about this fascinating science.
Ayurveda explained
The literal translation of Ayurveda is the science or knowledge of life. The ancient books (or Vedas) date back over 5,000 years, however, as long as there has been living there has been Ayurveda.
Ayurveda aims to allow us to use our intuition believing that everything happens when it is meant to; it is a lifestyle change that works holistically encompassing mind, body and spirit. If we all listened to our bodies and allowed ourselves to rest when needed, eat the nourishing home-cooked foods that are in season and suit our constitution we could prevent a number of illnesses and disease. Unfortunately in our hectic lives, we ignore the signals our body sends as our minds take over.
The 5 elements of space, air, fire, water and earth give rise to the 3 dosha’s, Vata, Pitta and Kapha. All living and non -living beings are made up of varying degrees of the dosha’s , the constitution we are born with is called our Prakriti. However, due to lifestyles changes, illness and trauma as a few examples, this leads to imbalances, this imbalanced state is our Vikriti. The aim of Ayurveda is to return us to our Prakriti, our natural state that we were born with.
Through food, herbs, yoga, manual therapies and daily lifestyle changes we can return to our birthright, to balance. The beauty of Ayurveda is that it is different for each and every one of us, we all have differing prakriti and coming back to balance will be a different journey for us all.
My own passion for Ayurveda led me to train with Dr Deepa Apte at Ayurveda Pura, where I qualified in Lifestyle and Nutrition in 2021. Since then, I have continued to nurture my knowledge and experience, including completing an Ayurveda Immersion Course with the Ayurveda Academy.
What I love most about Ayurveda is that it recognises that we are all unique. There is no single approach that works for everyone. Our food, routines, sleep, environment, emotions and lifestyle all play a part in how we feel.
My role is to share this beautiful, traditional wisdom in a simple and practical way, helping you understand your own needs and make small, meaningful changes that fit naturally into your life.
I want to help you feel empowered rather than overwhelmed — to understand your body, listen to what it is telling you and develop habits that support you for the long term.
My greatest hope is that through Ayurveda, I can help you create more balance, vitality and joy in your life, and ultimately help you live your best life, in your own unique way.
